“I delivered to the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon the request to join the UN Palestine as a full member based on the borders from 4th June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” said Abbas in a speech said in front of the UN General Assembly , waving the document in public applause.
“We are ready to return immediately to negotiations on the basis of references – based on the international law (especially the borders from 1967 ) and a total stop of the colonization” he said.
He also said that by doing so, the Palestinians “do not try to isolate or to miss Israel legitimacy”, but occupation and colonization.
Quartet react
Middle East Quartet, formed from the United States, United Nations, Russia and the EU reacted to reacted to the application for membership of the UN Palestine State with a detailed offer to resume dialogue.
